Chapter 7 Jessica

"Child, if you've thought it through, Mom will bless you, but she still hopes you can be happy, not letting my failed marriage influence you." Her daughter's determination was firm and resolute, and it had been the case since she was little.

After learning about Alice’s upcoming wedding, her mom started asking about Benjamin’s traits. She wanted to meet him in person and get to know her future son-in-law. Alice agreed to all of her mother's requests and planned to bring it up when he came to pick her up in two days. They hadn't discussed it yet because it was late at night.

Alice slowly squatted on the ground as she came out from the hospital. She shrugged her shoulders, and tears began to fall incessantly. She didn't know what the future would hold, but at this moment, she felt relieved because she saw her mother gradually recovering. Finally, her mother could take deep breaths.

The next evening, as Alice Brown stepped out of the operating room, she saw a seductive woman with big red lips standing diagonally at the door. This glamorous woman was her senior sister, a gynecologist at the hospital, and another best friend, Jessica.

But wasn't she supposed to be helping at a branch hospital? Why was she here?

"Ah, sister, you're finally done! I was starving waiting for you," Jessica walked over, hugged Alice and squeezed her as if Alice had no bones.

"Back away your full bosom before speaking," Alice glanced at what was resting on her arm and said helplessly.

"No fun at all," Jessica retorted silently, moving away.

"Weren't you at the branch hospital? Why are you here?"

"As if I can stay at that remote small city of S City all the time. There are so many handsome guys in the capital, I have to come back," Jessica responded without hesitation.

It had been half a year since she transferred to the branch hospital. Not only was it far from the local urban area, but there were also no eye-catching guys. They were either old men or little boys who hadn't yet grown any hair. Most importantly, they didn't have the spicy hot pot she liked!

"Come on, sister, I'll treat you to spicy hot pot!" After saying that, she confidently pulled Alice with determination.

However, in reality, they did more than just eat spicy hot pot. They also went for a spa and were currently out shopping.

When girls go out, it's all about eating, drinking, strolling, and shopping.

"What should I wear when meeting someone's parents?"

As soon as Alice asked, Jessica fell silent.

"Are you going to meet Hans' parents?" For some reason, Jessica had been against Alice being with Hans from the beginning. She didn't think he was a good person.

"No, we broke up half a month ago. He cheated on me with Suzie," Alice Brown said calmly.

She hadn't told Jessica about this incident before.

Jessica angrily responded that if it weren't for her personality, she would have rushed over from S City to chop that rubbish Hans into pieces on the same day.

"What? You'd do that!!!!"

"YES!! I knew something was off about those two! They're both scums!"

Jessica was in the middle of gesturing with a dress in her hand, and she immediately started cursing in anger.

Alice couldn't help but facepalm at her reaction. She knew this would happen. She shouldn't have told her about this here.

After apologizing to the salesperson, she quickly took Jessica outside and found a café to explain how she discovered the affair and the medical expenses for her mother. She also mentioned the plan to marry Benjamin Gregory.

Excitedly, Jessica shook Alice ‘s arm and said, "Sister, pinch me quick. I must be dreaming."

"Ah, ah, ah, your husband." Jessica pointed excitedly at the large screen playing the financial news in the café.

The man being interviewed on the screen was impeccably dressed in a suit, with sharp facial features and a straight nose. He wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, exuding an air of confidence. This kind of aura could only be emitted by someone who was absolutely self-assured. It seemed like he was meant to be like this.

He confidently answered the interview questions, radiating charm that seemed to overflow from the screen.

Even a few girls at the adjacent table couldn't help but look at him with infatuation.

Well, this man was dangerously captivating.

"Sister, how on earth did you get so lucky to marry a man like him? Wealthy, handsome, and the second-most eligible bachelor in the capital. No one dares to claim the top spot."

"To be honest, I'm jealous." Jessica angrily forked a piece of cake and chewed on it vigorously.

Alice’s lips twitched as she quietly sipped her coffee.

"I'm going to have dinner with him at his place tomorrow. So, are you going to accompany me to buy clothes for tomorrow?" She calmly spoke up.

"Yes, yes, yes! I almost forgot. I'll take you to buy clothes right now, and I guarantee Benjamin Gregory won't be able to take his eyes off you tomorrow."

"I'll call him to ask if I should bring something to his house." Alice had forgotten to ask earlier but happened to be shopping outside today, so she decided to buy something while she was at it.

She took out her phone and dialed an unfamiliar number, hesitating for a moment before making the call.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Gregory was still working overtime at the office. As soon as the meeting ended, he leaned back in his chair to relax when the phone on his desk started ringing. Even without any caller ID, he knew who it was.

Loosening his tie, he calmly answered, "What's up?" A deep, husky voice came through the receiver.

"Are you still busy?" Alice asked tentatively upon hearing his slightly weary voice.

"Mhmm, what's the matter?" People like them had more responsibilities the higher their position. Though they appeared polished and glamorous on the outside, they were always swamped with work.

There is always unfinished work and endless meetings in reality.

"I just wanted to ask if there's anything I should bring when I come to your place for dinner tomorrow?" Alice Brown inquired.

"No need, just bring yourself," Benjamin Gregory massaged his temples with a headache.

"Well... alright, take care of yourself," Alice pretended to show concern before quickly hanging up the phone.

Indeed, what does the Gregory family lack that they need her, a poor and insignificant person, to bring something over?

Alice went shopping with Jessica again and bought a white one-shoulder woven dress. With her fair skin and beautiful collarbone, the dress made her look more feminine, even the shop assistant kept praising how good it looked.

Originally, Alice planned to spend more time with Jessica, but she went back to the hospital early, claiming that she needed a good night's sleep for tomorrow's meeting with the parents.

Friday quickly arrived, and Alice left work early in the afternoon.

After returning to the staff quarters and tidying up her clothes and daily necessities, she was preparing to move to Benjamin’s place tonight. She took a shower, put on light makeup, and changed into the dress she bought yesterday. She put on a coat as well, aiming for a simple and elegant look suitable for meeting the parents.

At half past five, Benjamin appeared downstairs on time.

"Get in the car," he said coldly as the car stopped.

Alice obediently handed the luggage to the driver and got in.
