Chapter 4 Confronting Sophia

"Mr. Valentine might only be slightly suspicious of me. But if I leave so quickly, wouldn't that just prove I am guilty?” Dr. White instantly understood as soon as Lora said those words.

Lora continued, "Besides, didn't I ask you to arrange Sophia and her daughter as a diversion? For the time being, I’m safe."

The Sophia and her daughter, Lora mentioned, were the two suspicious women that Rosen had discovered through his investigation. Lora, hadn’t mastered scheming like Mr. Valentine, but she had definitely grasped a significant portion of it.

Before taking any action, he would make thorough arrangements, and only proceed when he was completely confident. Following Chris’s system, Lora had Dr. White find Sophia, who was already planning to retire, and gave her some money.

She wanted Sophia to bring her daughter into the villa in the evening, hide next to Chris’s room, and then leave with her daughter in the morning. This was to make people think that the woman from last night was Sophia's daughter.

However, Dr. White was expressing his concern, that this method might not be enough to evade suspicion. He opened his mouth to speak but stopped himself.

Lora noticed Dr. White's worries and reassured him, "Don't worry, I have a way to handle it. Right now, I am very tired."

"Then rest now Lora." After Dr. White left, Lora went to sleep, not waking until later that evening because she was hungry.

She quickly freshened up, although it was quite troublesome, and applied concealer all over her body. It's always good to be careful and cautious. It was only after completely covering herself, Lora went downstairs.

She thought that at this time, Chris should be out entertaining or busy in his study. So she crept downstairs like a thief, cautious and alert. But as she turned around, at the bottom of the stairs, she saw Chris sitting on the sofa, surrounded by a group of expressionless bodyguards and servants.

"Ahem," Lora pretended to cough and said seriously, "I am exercising vigilance."

Chris told her firmly, "Come here."

Lora hesitantly responded, "Oh...okay." She quickly walked over and sat beside Chris, forcing a smile. "Mr. Valentine, you're at home."

Chris didn't respond, and as he reached out his hand, a nearby servant handed him a hot pack. Lora was perplexed when she saw Chris about to lift her clothes.

Lora immediately tensed, "Stop it, Mr. Valentine, what are you doing?"

The latter did not respond and just gave Lora a look. Lora couldn't hold on for more than three seconds and immediately let go. Chris lifted her top and then placed a heated patch on Lora's belly.

He raised his head and asked, “Feeling any better?”

Lora nodded instinctively, but in the next second, she immediately shook her head. Her period hadn't even arrived. Chris then had a servant bring hot water and fed Lora most of a cup.

Only then did he speak, "would you accompany me to deal with something."

As soon as he finished speaking, Chris made a gesture, and Rosen brought in a middle-aged, overweight woman. Lora's heart turned cold when she saw this woman, it was none other than Sophia, the diversion Lora had arranged.

Lora glanced at Dr. White. He was trembling too. He had arranged for Sophia and her daughter to take the morning flight to Argentina, it would take a full 48 hours to get there by plane. How could they be captured and brought back?

Normally, no matter what Chris did, it would be impossible to bring someone back within these two days. Sophia was now very scared and stole a glance at Lora. However, under Lora's warning, she immediately lowered her head.

Chris glanced at Lora. Lora felt extremely anxious, but on the surface, she pretended to be calm.

“Mr. Valentine, what is it?”

"Don't you know?" Chris retorted.

Lora pondered for a moment and then said, "Oh, you're talking about yesterday's incident. I just asked Dr. White! I never expected someone to be so audacious and... toward you..."

Lora didn't continue her sentence, showing her guilt. She then deliberately asked, "What does this have to do with Sophia?"

Chris didn't answer Lora's question but instead gave a look to Rosen beside him. Rosen stepped forward and interrogated Sophia.

"You have one minute to confess about what happened yesterday."

Sophia trembled and nodded, obediently saying, "Yesterday, I was working the whole time, I didn't...I didn't..."

Before she could finish speaking, Rosen had already pulled out the gun from his waist, aimed it at Sophia's head, and flicked off the safety.

Threatened with her life, Sophia completely collapsed, "I... I’ll talk, I'll talk..."

As Sophia slumped to the ground, Dr. White closed his eyes. It was over, everything would be over now!

While Dr. White felt chilled, Lora remained calm, sitting there without any panic, as if the whole thing had nothing to do with her. She truly acted as if she was just with Chris, who would handle this matter.

Under Rosen's threat, Sophie trembled and said, "Yesterday, my daughter came to see me, and coincidentally, Mr. Valentine's old illness flared up. There were no servants around, so I... I thought of..."

“Well, I overheard Dr. White say, that Mr. Valentine had kissed Miss Scott during a previous incident and things had calmed down. So I thought, my daughter is about the same age as Miss Scott and resembles her in some ways, so I... I thought..." Sophia couldn't continue her words, trembling all over and breaking out in a cold sweat.

Rosen pressured her, “Continue!”

Sophia, begging while bowing her head, said, "So, I had my daughter wear Miss Scott's clothes, and sprayed her perfume on her, before she entered Mr. Valentine's room."

When Sophia finished speaking, she started pleading, "Mr. Valentine, it's all my fault. It has nothing to do with my daughter. Please spare her!"

Dr. White was left stunned by Sophia's plea. It was completely different from what he and Lora had arranged before.

Lora remained calm. Chris's face remained cold and expressionless, without a hint of emotion. He only glanced at Rosen.

Rosen continued to question, "If that's the case, why did you leave with your daughter this morning?"

Sophia stuttered, "I... I was scared. Last night, I lost my mind, but this morning I realized that if Mr. Valentine were to blame us, both my daughter and I would be doomed!"

Rosen asked, “Where is your daughter now?”

Sophia replied, "On the plane to Argentina."

Rosen was about to continue questioning when Chris signaled him to stop. Rosen took Sophia away while she continued begging for mercy. The other staff also withdrew, leaving only Lora and Chris in the living room.

Lora glanced at Chris and then smiled as she tested, "Mr. Valentine, I spoke with Dr. White earlier. Last night, your chronic headache ailment was eased for the first time. Are you looking to keep Sophia's daughter by your side?"

Chris didn't answer, his deep gaze fixed on Lora. She found his eyes were to be extremely profound, often leaving her puzzled.

She smiled and tested, "I heard that your headache ailment was eased, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to have someone by your side."

"Someone by my side?" A mocking curve formed at the corner of Chris’s mouth. “She’s not qualified.”

The murderous glow in his eyes made Lora shiver, a sense of fear crawling from the depths of her heart to her scalp. But Lora had a strong heart.

While sitting together, she made a playful and teasing remark, tilting her head and saying, "So, Mr. Valentine, do you think I'm qualified?"
