Chapter 3 Mr. Valentine’s Suspicions

As Chris lifted Lora's collar, her face turned pale. She quickly grabbed Chris's hand. "Mr. Valentine, what are you doing?"

Chris narrowed his eyes. "Why are you so nervous?"

Lora smiled. "I'm a girl, and you're opening my collar."

After speaking, Lora pulled down Chris's hand with a distressed look on her face. "Mr. Valentine, is something happening outside? It feels chaotic, and it's making me uncomfortable."

Lora's discomfort was genuine, and her pale face was genuine too. Chris looked at Lora, his brows slightly furrowed. Especially when he saw a hint of red bloodshot in Lora's eyes, he covered her eyes with his hand.

"Didn't you sleep well last night?"

"Yeah, I felt uncomfortable all night," Lora's voice sounded foolish.

Chris furrowed his brows. "Didn't play video games?"

Lora quickly shook her head. "Mr. Valentine, I'm obedient. You said video games harm the eyes, so I haven't played them."

She looked obedient in his eyes, so Chris nodded satisfactorily and helped Lora lie back down. “Take care of your eyes.”

Lora obediently lay back down, still very nervous, but not daring to look at Chris too much.

He was too clever. Whenever Lora showed a hint of panic, he would detect something wrong.

After Chris helped Lora lie down, his hand gently touched her abdomen. When his palm landed on her lower abdomen, Lora's body trembled.

"Why is your face turning red?" Chris was about to reach out and touch Lora's face when she quickly avoided it. Chris furrowed his brows.

Lora explained, "I-I'm tired, just want to sleep, Mr. Valentine, you go and take care of your business," Lora said as she struggled to free herself from Chris' grip on her abdomen.

"I'm going to sleep, I'm going to sleep," Lora hurriedly closed her eyes.

But Lora could clearly feel Chris leaning down, his warm breath brushing against her face like a feather gently caressing her heart, causing her to tremble with nervousness.

"Rest well," Chris reassured her in a soothing tone, while his hand moved up to lift Lora's neck.

Lora's body tensed up completely. But Chris, simply pulled the blanket over her and, left without lingering any longer. As Chris exited Lora's room, he ran into a servant who was bringing hot tea. With a cold expression, he waved his hand, dismissing the servant.

However, Chris paused his steps and turned back to look at Lora's tightly closed door. Thinking about how he almost opened Lora's collar earlier and the thought of seeing her fair skin.

He, seriously, considered that last night's woman was Lora. He was being tormented by suspicion. The young girl, wild and cunning as she may be, couldn't possibly do such a thing.

Chris massaged his temples with a headache, trying to clear his mind.

But he couldn’t stop the thoughts about, how he spent the previous night with a woman. It continued to flood his thoughts. He increased the strength of rubbing his temples, hastened his steps, and returned to the study.

Sitting on the couch, he grabbed a cigarette and a lighter from the table, lit it, and tossed the golden lighter on the table, making a crisp sound. As he smoked, the smoke filled his lungs and he exhaled beautiful smoke rings, with his eyes half-closed.

After the faint smoke slowly dissipated, Chris revealed his devilishly handsome face, akin to a deity standing high above the clouds, overlooking everything in the world. However, there was a hint of irritability between his brows.

"Knock, knock." As the sound of knocking on the study door resonated, Rosen entered.

Respectfully reporting, "Mr. Valentine, I have investigated and confirmed that Miss Scott was in her room all night. According to her gaming log, she was playing games the whole time."

After reporting, Rosen secretly glanced at Chris. Chris simply lazily responded with an "Hmm."

He reclined on the couch, holding the cigarette in his right hand and resting it on the chair, while massaging his temples with his left hand, his expression indifferent. The sunlight from the French windows behind him shone on him perfectly, as if bathing him in a layer of golden light.

Observing this, Rosen lowered his head and looked at the document in his hand. "There is another matter regarding the Scott family tragedy."

Chris, who had been keeping his eyes closed, immediately opened them upon hearing this.

Rosen placed a document in front of Chris. Chris extinguished his cigarette and opened the document. It contained information about a man around the age of 50.

Rosen provided a brief summary, "This man's name is Elvis Reed, he was the one who hired a hitman to murder Miss Scott's mother and grandfather. After the incident, Elvis underwent plastic surgery. He changed his name, so that he could go abroad, and to stop people from finding him."

Meanwhile upstairs, Lora was panicking. “Mr. Valentine suspects me," Lora said.

Dr. White listened attentively, instantly becoming nervous. After all, it was his idea, and if they were caught, Lora would be sent out of the country, and he would face dire consequences.

After thinking for a minute, Dr. White made a suggestion, "What if, Miss Scott, you quickly leave on the pretext of some school-related matters?"

Lora immediately agreed upon hearing this advice. There was nothing safer than leaving as soon as possible. But then she hesitated and shook her head, "I can't leave!"

Surprised, Dr. White asked, "Why not?"
