Chapter 11 This Woman Is So Ugly
After wrapping up their zoo visit, it was still pretty early, so Charles decided to take Bianca and Jasper to the indoor play areas at the nearby mall.
When they got there, the place was packed with kids running and jumping around. Charles frowned and turned to Jasper, "Jasper, it's super crowded. Should I just rent out the whole park for you two?"
Jasper frowned too, looking just as annoyed. "No way! Just get the tickets. I'll take Bianca to play!"
Jasper grabbed Bianca's hand and they dashed off. Bianca stuck her tongue out at Charles and made a funny face before they disappeared into the park.
Charles chuckled and went to buy the tickets. Then he found a spot in the parents' waiting area, keeping a close eye on the two kids like a hawk.
After they had their fill of the rides, Bianca and Jasper came running back to Charles.
Bianca was beaming, her face all flushed and her hair damp with sweat. Jasper was panting, his face red from all the fun.
Charles, who had been sitting around all day, stretched his stiff body, handed them water bottles, and gave them handkerchiefs.
Jasper took the handkerchief and handed it to Bianca, looking at her with a soft smile.
"Thanks, Jasper," Bianca said sweetly, wiping her face and then handing the handkerchief back to Charles. "Thank you."
Charles smiled, "You're welcome."
He thought to himself, 'We just met today, why is Bianca so cold towards me?'
He had been thinking about it all day, but still had no answers. Fortunately, he sensed that Jasper was starting to warm up to him.
Tired from all the fun, Bianca and Jasper started complaining about being hungry. Charles was about to take them to eat when, just as they left the amusement park, someone ran up and linked arms with him. "Charles, I'm here," Emily said.
Charles instinctively looked at Jasper and saw his indifferent expression. He frowned and turned to Emily. "Why are you here? Weren't you busy today?"
Emily replied gently, "My plan got canceled, and I heard you were hanging out with Jasper, so I decided to join. I haven't seen Jasper in a while."
As she spoke, Emily noticed Bianca standing next to Jasper. Her eyes widened. 'Who is this girl? She looks a bit like Jasper. Anyone would think they're siblings!' she thought.
Emily tightened her grip on Charles's arm. "Charles, who's this little girl?"
Charles answered, "She's Bianca, a new friend Jasper made in kindergarten."
Emily was surprised and frowned. Wasn't Jasper usually a loner? When did he start making friends? She stared at Bianca.
Bianca felt uncomfortable under Emily's gaze and glared back. 'She must be the bad woman Mia talked about!' Bianca thought.
Bianca's eyes turned cold, full of obvious hostility.
Emily was taken aback by Bianca's hostility. She cursed inwardly but forced a smile. "You're so pretty. Come, let me hold you."
Emily didn't like Bianca at all, but she had to keep up appearances.
Jasper pushed Emily's hand away and stood in front of Bianca. "Go away, don't touch her!" he said coldly. His face set with determination to protect Bianca.
Emily's face turned cold, cursing inwardly, 'Brat, how dare you push me!'
She turned to Charles with a look of grievance. "I didn't mean any harm, I just thought she was cute."
Charles frowned, pursed his lips, and said nothing.
It was no surprise that Bianca and Jasper were openly hostile toward Emily. Charles felt ignored all day, despite taking good care of them and only getting a few smiles in return.
The atmosphere was tense, so Charles cleared his throat and changed the subject. "The kids are hungry, let's go eat first."
Emily was still fuming but kept it to herself. She linked arms with Charles and said sweetly, "Charles, I booked a restaurant. Let's go."
Charles turned to Jasper. "What are you standing there for? Aren't you hungry? Come on."
Jasper sighed, holding Bianca's hand and trailing behind them. He had no choice; Charles was too authoritative!
Meanwhile, even though it was the weekend, Grace went to the office to catch up on some work. By the time she got back to her new place, the sun was setting, and Bianca still wasn't home.
Feeling uneasy, she dialed Bianca's number.
At that moment, Bianca was at the restaurant, looking pretty miserable. There was a ton of food in front of her, but she had no appetite.
The phone rang a few times before Bianca picked up, her voice muffled. "Mommy, I'm eating."
Her eyes lit up when she heard Grace's voice.
Bianca glared at Charles and Emily across the table and shouted, "Mommy, the food here is terrible! The woman sitting across from me is so ugly, and she keeps acting all cutesy with Jasper's dad! I can't eat at all!"
Charles pursed his lips. Emily looked helpless and extremely gloomy.
Bianca sniffled, feeling wronged. "Mommy, I want to go home! I want to eat your cooking."
Grace raised an eyebrow, gripping her phone tightly. An ugly woman? Could Bianca be with Emily?
Charles frowned, hesitated, and then took Bianca's phone.
Grace was about to respond when Charles's deep voice came through. "Sorry, I'm Jasper's dad. I apologize for the poor hospitality today. It's getting late, I'll send Bianca back right away."
Hearing the familiar voice, Grace was stunned and quickly hung up. Her heart was still pounding.
Charles looked at the phone, confused. The screen showed Bianca's face, but nothing else.
Bianca pouted, full of dissatisfaction. "You're so bad! You took my phone!"
Charles was at a loss for words.
Bianca jumped down from her chair, with Jasper following closely behind. The two kids walked past Emily hand in hand, snorting at her arrogantly.
Emily was furious and turned to Charles with a grievance. "Charles, look at them!"
Jasper was one thing, but Bianca, who came out of nowhere, how dare she be so rude to her.
Charles frowned, impatiently saying, "You go back first, I'll take them home."
He had taken Bianca out for the whole day, but she hadn't had a good time. The most urgent thing now was to send her back quickly and then properly apologize to her parents.
Charles had no intention of comforting Emily. Without waiting for her to speak, he took Bianca and Jasper and left.
Emily's face turned red with anger, and she threw the utensils in her hand. "Little brats! So rude!" she muttered through gritted teeth.
Half an hour later, Charles's car pulled up outside Bianca's new home.
Bianca looked around and then leaned over. "Mr. Montague, you can stop the car here. I'll go in by myself."
She winked at Jasper.
Jasper understood, afraid they would follow her in. It would be terrible if Charles saw Grace.
Charles had the driver stop the car and personally helped Bianca open the door. He probably didn't even realize that his gaze toward Bianca carried a hint of tenderness.
Bianca got out of the car with her short legs and waved to Jasper, who had also gotten out. "Goodbye, Jasper. I'm going home."
Jasper nodded at her, smiling. Bianca swung her two braids, ran a few steps, then seemed to remember something and turned to look at Charles, snorting angrily. Her little face puffed up with anger, she quickly ran off.
Charles was amused by Bianca's behavior. Even though she wasn't friendly toward him, he didn't mind at all. In fact, he was even a bit happy.
